"Fashion is not something that exists in dresses only. Fashion is in the sky, in the street, fashion has to do with ideas, the way we live, what is happening. " ~Coco Chanel

Happily Ever After

When finding the all important bridal gown you will be met with words like dropped waist, fluted, A-line, Organza, or Faille. The minute you walk into the bridal salon its like you've crossed the border into a country that speaks fabric, a language you recognize but can't yet speak fluently. Of course its not because you are foreign to fashion, it's just that bridal fashion is its own animal. Here is some help to tame the beast... Here in English for the first time is your bridal gown guide to the shapes and styles of the moment.

Here is the Best in every shape....ok so I am a little partial to these brands:)

1. The most common shape (A-line) really just means that its a full skirt..but not too full! It hangs like an A , go figure, from the waist:)

Priscilla of Boston organza with velvet and swarovski belt: Organza is gauzy romantic fabric that is see though, but when layered as it is here it creates a full sea of a skirt!

This one has a dropped waist, notice the fitted bodice through the hips! The A hangs dropped from the hips!
JL104 by Jewel for Priscilla

Priscilla silk faille gown.... faille is a rough silk that feels a little less formal. This dress add a Michael Jackson belt that takes it to "thrilling" new heights!

2. Ball Gowns: fuller than an A-line and more formal too! Easy to see the difference right?

Platinum for Priscilla of Boston, by Kenneth Pool

Platinum for Priscilla with tulle skirt tufted in rosettes: Amazing! Tulle is the ballerina tutu fabric but here the designer keeps it long so it falls softly.

3. The fitted gown: can be called fit to flare, fluted, trumpet or mermaid this shape shows off the whole body.
Reverie by Melissa Sweet "Capri": This version is chiffon with straps. It has appliqued bows and roses down the sleeves and at the skirt...so romantic!

Melissa Sweet "Wallis" : Chiffon rosettes cover the entire dress...your like a living walking rose garden!
Priscilla of Boston: beaded lace. This gown is my favorite, All over beading made to look like lace with a frothy organza layered hem! Heaven!
Wedding Bells are ringing!!

Interview Attire

No matter what the job, in order to secure it you must nail the interview. Now I can't help you all with your answer to "what is your greatest strength?" but I can show you how to dress for the part!

It never fails that when January rolls around people start anew at the never ending search for greener pastures in the work arena. So I thought it only appropriate to start out the new year with a blog about go-getting garb!

Here is what to wear for that all important interview...

Here is the one and only RULE to interview attire: Always wear some form of a suit for an interview! The type of suit changes depending on the type of job...but it is a suit all the same. It doesn't have to be the most expensive, no one expects recent college grads to be sporting Chanel tweed on their first fore into the work world, but here is a way to suit up for any occasion.

Climbing the Corporate ladder: Basic dark SKIRT suit with sharp lines. If you're interviewing corporate you still run the risk of meeting the old boys club so make sure you pick a skirt suit.

Political Ambitions: Ladylike hues with a tie blouse!! I would totally vote for you!

Fitness Instructor: Belted and zippered!! Who wouldn't want you to be their personal trainer?

Events Coordinator/Planner: you are effortlessly chic in this boucle skirt suit that is easy to run around in and something your clients can see your design aesthetic through!

Balance sheets: I've never been an accountant but my close friend tells me they all love brown suits! Here is one that incorporates the color while not looking too dull. They'll remember you this way!

Retail Oriented : Caped jacket, you are so on point, how could they not hire you?

Best of luck in your new job!!

Rodarte for Target <3

Target's new Go International designer line is by RODARTE!! It comes out December 20th and you will not want to miss this!!! Seriously RUN DON'T WALK! There are so many cute party dresses in this line that you will be dreaming up occasions to wear them! Though Target has tried to keep the line secret, Internet pictures were leaked weeks ago and now some of the gowns have been featured in magazines this month.

For the line, the girls from Rodarte collaborated with their fan and my fellow blogger, Tavi Gevinson (Style Rookie). The thirteen year old shares my weakness for all things girly: bows, lace and tulle oh my, making this line lovable!

Here is a preview!
Enjoy,

What I want NOW!

What I want now are all things Grandma Chic....That's what I've decided to call my new fashion obsession. Here is how this love affair began.

While walking through the Savvy department at the Nordstrom Christmas Party, I came across a sweater so exciting I let out a small squeal! My shopping partner turned and caught me caressing a hot pink merino wool sweater with jeweled shoulders. Although it looked like something my blue haired Grandmother might have dug out of her closet, I knew it was for me! Me and this sweater, this sweater and I, we were meant to be together! I wanted to call out to the sales associate, "I'll take this in every color you've got!" In the end I controlled the hysteria that was rising within and casually said to my friend, "I think you should buy this." You see Grandma Chic is for the you, the young and vivacious 20 and 30 somethings. On the hanger it may seem matronly but put it on and viola! Chic perfection! The shiny bedazzling that may seem just comical on our matriarchs look fresh and new on us. Go ahead, give it a try!

Here's the one that stopped me dead in my tracks...Trina Turk's Sessilee Sweater

Who says we can't relive our past?

Remember the days of our youth when we would french roll our jordache jeans? Well we can relive those glory days in this new trend! The rolled jean is back! Its back and better! Now try it with a skinny jean so there is no need for the french part. Just roll to the ankle and pair with heels and PRESTO, you are so now! It even looks great with a slim fit chino! See below...

Long live the 90's!

Trends you should never try!

Faux leather leggings...........are just not cute. Sometimes called liquid leggings, these pleather looking contraptions look more like wet suit bottoms then pants to wear in public. A good rule of thumb is that you should never wear leather that looks more like rubber than it does a natural fabric. Trade these troublesome trousers for a metallic dark skinny jean or a double knit dark legging, like the one shown below. Tory Burch and J-Crew both have a great pair out this season!

Always looking out for you!
